FAQ's About our Transition - Location

12/18/2016

We're putting together a list of these questions. Most of these have been passed out to folks at the end of November at Communitas. Some of them (like this post) just answer very simple, practical questions like where we will meet and how we will be able to give. Others are more theologically oriented or deal with our philosophy of ministry. Please feel free to email Asher with any further questions as we want to try to answer as many of your questions as possible and be as transparent as we can be.
  • Are we looking to meet at night still?
    • Yes - we will meet at 5 PM for the forseeable future.
  • Where are we going to meet On Sunday Nights?
    • The truth of the answer is that we don’t know yet, but we have until the end of May to decide if it takes us that long, as FPC has graciously allowed us the use of the sanctuary for the next six months (through May of 2017) if necessary. We will most likely meet very close to our present location and our hope would be that it would most likely occur somewhere on the lower south hill, Browne’s Addition or possibly the southern part of the West Central neighborhood. We are looking at churches as well as other facilities that can be rented such as Roosevelt Elementary and the Women’s Club. Some of the things that we will need to consider are the ability to welcome people that don’t traditionally go to church as we don’t want it to be intimidating, cost, ease of setup and teardown each week, and probably some stuff that we haven’t even thought through yet.  If you would like to help with this process we would love to have you as a part of our New Location Team.
  • Will we have to rent office space?
    • First Pres has offered for us to use our current offices at 1415 W Third (the brick building on Third across from Subway and adjacent to the FPC parking lot) rent free for all of 2017. In the future we will have to assess where we will have office space if we choose to keep a central office or not. It will be really helpful for us to have it through our transition, but we also know that it is a cost that we might actually end up doing better without long term as we are mostly meeting for small groups in people's homes, staff meet with people in coffee shops and our Leadership Team could meet in homes anyhow.
  • What will happen with worship? Will we have to buy new equipment?
    • Depending on the location that we meet at we will probably need to buy at least some sound equipment. Our weekly worship services will continue on in the same style as they are now: a focus on prayer, Scripture, songs, quiet and preaching and community.
